This week at North America’s leading technical boatbuilding showcase – the 2019 International Boatbuilding Exhibition (IBEX) – Volvo Penta was awarded the IBEX Innovation Award for its Next-Generation D4 and D6 Marine Propulsion Systems.

 The IBEX Innovation Award showcases outstanding marine product development to the recreational boating industry and beyond. The program is managed by the American National Marine Manufacturers Association, NMMA, and judged by Boat Writers International, BWI. This award is one of the marine industry’s most prestigious honors recognizing manufacturers and suppliers who bring new, innovative products to market and Volvo Penta is very proud to have received it.

The D4 and D6 propulsion systems have been re-engineered with redesigned engines, new sterndrive, updated IPS drive and a new Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) platform. The end result is a fully integrated package that delivers the ultimate boating experience.

 This re-engineering did not happen overnight, it took over 300,000 engineering hours and 40,000 test hours –  as well as investment in production facilities – to deliver this new generation of D4 and D6.

 The benefits of this hard work enhance almost every aspect that boat owners consider important – including performance, reliability, durability, running costs and maintenance. The improvements also deliver a more enjoyable experience, with a more comfortable ride and greater maneuverability.
