The organisers of the Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) have announced that the event will be postponed due to local coronavirus restrictions.
While the event was scheduled to go forth in April, event organisers decided to postpone the event to later this year because local restrictions and protocols against Covid-19 would pose a challenge to “stage SYS to the satisfaction of exhibitors and sponsors for the moment”, according to a press release.
New dates for SYS have not been announced as event organisers have noted that: “the show should be delayed until the advent of the global vaccination programme forces the retreat of the virus and facilitates the re-opening of borders” so that a “near-normal SYS” can go forth.
Despite the show’s cancellation, Verventia CEO Andy Treadwell remains optimistic about the current state and future of the Asian yachting industry. “The same forces that have taken away the shows, freezing marketing budgets and whole businesses like ours, have at the same time created an unprecedented boom in boat sales and a massive uplift in the industry – and, in my view, in its future, especially in Asia.”
