Cantieri di Pisa unveils new 44m Akhir 44 model at Cannes Yachting Festival

Cantieri di Pisa announced that the first model of the Akhir line to hit the market will be the 44-metre Akhir 44.

The Akhir 44, designed by Antonio Luxardo, blends the heritage of the brand and innovation. This new model will be the first of the Akhir line to hit the market. This line features recognisable elements like strip windows, “shark-like” decoration on the bow, and horizontal-grid air intakes. These hallmark features remain intact in the Akhir 44, creating a strong link between past and present.

Key to the Akhir 44’s design is its lightweight carbon fibre composite hull and superstructure, built using a vacuum-moulding process. The yacht features an innovative EHPH Power Fin hull, which is designed for improved performance and fuel efficiency. This focus on cutting-edge technology, coupled with the retention of the Akhir line’s signature aesthetic features, ensures the model stays true to the brand’s DNA.

The introduction of the Akhir line has the goal of appealing to modern yacht owners while preserving Cantieri di Pisa’s legacy. In line with its mission to innovate, Cantieri di Pisa brought in designer Antonio Luxardo to lead the company’s vision. Luxardo’s challenge was to honour the brand’s heritage while incorporating modern technologies and ensuring minimal environmental impact in production.

Investing in innovation

During the press conference, Cantieri di Pisa CEO Marco Massabò highlighted the journey the company has taken under its new ownership, including the expansion of production facilities, the launch of the Polaris and Saturno lines, and the sale of CdP Custom Division’s first explorer vessel, with design and engineering by Marcelo Penna.

The event provided a platform for Cantieri di Pisa, established in 1945 and now owned by Enrico Gennasio, to showcase its achievements and outline its future direction. Since the new management team took over in 2021, they have invested six million euros to expand production facilities, supported by a strong order book of nearly 30 million euros. This investment has allowed for the expansion and modernisation of the shipyard, which now spans 50,000-square-metres, including a 24,000-square-metre refit area.

The shipyard is currently working on six projects, with space for vessels up to 56 metres in length. Notable builds include the 80 Veloce, a 24-metre yacht made from carbon fibre capable of reaching 60 knots, and a 37.50-metre explorer yacht, which is being developed by the CdP Custom Division and scheduled for launch in 2026.

As a result of these ambitious projects, Cantieri di Pisa boasts a robust order book for 2024, valued at 27 million euros, which includes 17 million euros in new-builds and 10 million euros in refits. Under the new ownership, the company has seen steady growth, with sales rising from three million euros in 2021 to four million euros in 2023.
