Epiphany Trimaran Concept Is Like a Gigantic Floating Resort With Tilting Masts
Epiphany Trimaran Concept Is Like a Gigantic Floating Resort With Tilting Masts

Introducing the latest creation of Steve Kozloff Designs--Epiphany, a 178’ mega yacht trimaran. Epiphany has three decks, is a double masted sailing craft with two  Solid Sail systems from Chantiers de l’Atlantique Solid Sail/ AeolDrive sail and mast system.

Epiphanys’ One-of-a-kind features

  • Internal garage for an A5 Icon seaplane.

  • 1500 sq ft interconnecting retractable beach club.

  • An integrated telescoping crane system in the boom of each mast that can load and off-load provisions, tenders, seaplanes, and more.

  • 1 large stern pool.

  • Forward viewing windows in the hulls.

  • She is equipped with four self-inflating lifeboats that can be deployed in the worst conditions from her dedicated deployment pockets at her stern.

Epiphanys’ interior space

  • The interior space has multi-levels, curved walls, and a multitude of large windows providing a near panoramic view.

  • Shefeatures a 700 ft² owner’s suite located in the bow of the center hull and in the cross beam are 2 master suites. Guest cabins can host 12 guests in full luxury, and crew cabins accommodate 8 crew.

  • The piano and entertainment (salon) area are on the upper deck include floor to ceiling windows providing views of the surrounding seascape. The bar is elevated two steps up from the piano providing unique and inviting spaces.

Advantages of the Solid Sail System

Epiphany with her Solid Sail system has many great advantages over traditional sailing rigs.  Five of those advantages are listed below.

  • The mast tilts 70 degrees forward to reduce the air draft from 145.5 feet to 92 feet making it possible for Epiphany to traverse below most bridges.  Epiphany now can have direct access to the Panama Canal, San Francisco, San Diego, and many more notable harbors.

  • Solid Sail system is the automated setting and dropping of the sails.

  • The boat can be pointed in any direction when raising or lowering of the sails. The Solid Sail System has a 360-degree rotating mast. The captain simply rotates the mast into the wind to preform the raising and lowering of the sails.

  • Solid Sail material has a 20 plus year service life vs 4 to 5 years for traditional Dacron sails.

  • The free-standing mast is clean and free of yards and shrouds, thus making voyages into icing conditions much more practical and safer. Introducing a de-icing system to the clean mast is very feasible.

  • The Solid Sail system has integrated load sensing technology that informs the captain how much to drive the sailing rigs.

  • The main sail on each mast is comprised of semi rigid panels that are hinged together.  The jib is a traditional Dacron sail that is automatically rolled in or out.

  • The Solid Sail system is significantly less expensive than other free-standing sail rig systems.

Important features of Epiphanyto note

  • Heated masts, handrails, and heated doors to minimize icing problems.

  • Full-service sit-down bar on the upper deck and beach club.

  • A full beam garage that can handle 1 tender, one A5 Icon seaplane, and one Nemo U-Boat Worx submarine with dedicated launching systems and other water toys.

  • 1500 sq ft interconnecting retractable beach club.

Epiphanys’ performance

She can cruise at 10kts for 4800 nautical miles with diesel power only. Her range is greatly extended with careful management of her hybrid diesel-electric systems and sail power. Under sail power only, she can make 8kts.

Epiphanys’ anchor system

The traditional external anchor system has been replaced with an unusual flush mounted submarine style anchor underneath the bow. This system offers a cleaner bow appearance.

In closing

Epiphany is a world class sailing yacht featuring new and exciting revolutionary concepts, including the 1500 square foot interconnecting beach club, and the dedicated seaplane garage. The decks on the outer hulls provide a private and spacious lounging area, and the master suite in the main hull includes very large forward facing windows for an exciting perspective of the seascape.
