Heesen has technically launched the 80 metre all-aluminium superyacht Project Cosmos, which has now been named Galactica.
The yacht and its custom teeth-themed bulb was unveiled and launched at the Dutch shipyard. Galactica will supersede the 70.07 metre Galactica Super Nova as the yard's flagship when it is delivered next year.
“Today, we are celebrating the launch of a unique yacht,” said Heesen chief executive Arthur Brouwer. “Unique not only for our shipyard, as she is the largest we have ever taken on and represents the pinnacle of our achievements to date. Cosmos is also unique in the industry - the largest and fastest aluminium yacht in her class ever built.”
It comes after the hull and superstructure of the superyacht were joined in July 2020. This event saw the 80.07 metre low-drag hull driven onto a barge and transported across the canal where a total of four telescopic cranes lifted it from the barge and placed it into the water. The propulsion system, which consists of four MTU 4000 M73 engines totalling 19,000hp and two gearboxes, was then installed into the hull.
Sold in March 2018, Cosmos features exterior styling by British studio Winch Design while Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design was appointed to design the yacht's interiors.
Cosmos marks Heesen's third collaboration with Sinot, which also worked on 55 metre Azamanta and 70 metre Galactica Super Nova.
Project Cosmos's four MTU 4000 M73 engines totalling 19,000hp will provide a top speed of 30 knots.
Other key features include a certified helideck on the bow beneath which sits the tender garage, which will feature a Winch-designed custom limousine.
The interior styling of Project Cosmos will feature a blend of natural materials, with lighter hues and accents of blue and darker wenge.
Other decorative materials will include black onyx, straw marquetry and crystal panels while custom furniture made from glass, marble, metal and various woods will add the finishing touches.
Accommodation is for up to 12 guests split across six cabins, including a main deck master suite, bridge-deck VIP and four lower deck cabins. The crew quarters will sleep a staff of 19 people.
