Turquoise announces construction of new 51m sailing yacht Rainbow II

The 51.32-metre sailing yacht, Rainbow II is now under construction at Turquoise Yachts with an expected 2021 delivery date. The classic sloop Rainbow II began her life in the Netherlands before the hull was purchased by Turquoise Yachts.

The builders hope to pay homage to the era of the large classic yachts of the early 1900s in her design, aiming to offer her owner a traditional sailing experience combined with a contemporary style and comfortable features.

Her original schooner platform has been re-designed by Dykstra Naval Architects to become a sloop, with an interior designed by deVosdeVries design.

The new Rainbow II features long overhangs and a sheer line which will give her a classic appearance, while her high bulwarks will aim to provide guests with a smoother journey.

The 230 GT yacht will feature a main cockpit with space for alfresco dining adjacent to her main deckhouse saloon. A side-boarding platform will allow easy access to the sea as well as tender boarding. Her main deckhouse saloon has windows all around, providing her interior with both views and light. With a dining table seating 12, lounge area, a pantry and a direct connection to the large exterior cockpit, the saloon will be the focal point of Rainbow II.

The interior styling of the Rainbow II in-build is reminiscent of historic racing yachts, with a general finish of lacquered mahogany and panel detailing on the main walls and cabinetry. Finer detailing will be enriched with ebony inlays and burl veneer tops.

Down below, the owner's stateroom is situated aft and will feature a double bed lying directly below a skylight. Further forward, along the large central corridor, there will be four cabins: a VIP, two twins and a double, each with its own bathroom. The lower saloon on portside will serve as an entertainment area with a sofa bed to sleep an additional two persons, making enough space for twelve guests.

The crew area is located forward of the mast and houses the galley, crew mess and four cabins, sleeping nine crew. A dedicated crew entrance provides access to the foredeck. The aft deckhouse will be predominantly for crew use and houses the navigation area. While at anchor, access to the stateroom below can be opened. This space and the cockpit behind can double as an extended owner's area.

She will be powered by a 551kW Volvo D16 main engine, allowing her to travel comfortably at around 15.5 knots.
