Dutch shipyard Heesen has launched their second hybrid superyacht in the 5000 aluminium FDHF class: the 49.8-metre Electra. Since hitting the water for the first time last week, Electra is being prepared for intensive sea trials in the North Sea ahead of her April 2020 delivery date.

Frank Laupman of Omega Architects designed the new superyacht’s exterior, combining a shallow-draft hull with an efficient diesel-electric propulsion engine. Design features of Electra’s exterior layout includes a near-vertical bow, long waterline and extensive use of glass. Guests can make use of the outdoor sundeck and Jacuzzi, lounge areas forward of the wheelhouse and main deck aft, outdoor dining on the bridge deck aft and the fixed swim platform.

The interior layout was devised to accommodate up to 12 guests in six staterooms all with private en-suite bathrooms. On the main deck forward, the full-beam master stateroom includes an office with large marble shower, vanity area and separate toilet. The remaining guests are able to reside on the lower deck in a full-beam VIP, two twins and two double suites, all with direct access to a fully equipped gym with sauna aft. Cristiano Gatto was enlisted for the interior design and contemporary style, with a grand staircase, custom furniture and dark oak flooring that contrasts with pale coloured panelling and cabinetry.

Heesen’s hybrid solution operates in four different cruising modes, allowing the 5000 aluminium FDHF model to cruise in quiet mode to speeds of up to 9 knots and reach a top speed of 16.3 knots for an extra ‘boost’ power mode.
