Royal Huisman Reveals More Details About In-Development Project Lotus

Royal Huisman has revealed more details into its in-development Project Lotus, an 88 metre Dyna-Rig sailing yacht and 70 metre explorer motor yacht.

The yard said it had received "overwhelmingly positive" feedback after presenting the project at the Monaco Yacht Show last month.

The all-aluminium Project Lotus has been designed by the ThirtyC design studio in collaboration with Dykstra Naval Architects, which is responsible for the sailing yacht’s innovative DynaRig.

The idea of the concept is for the two yachts to be built and operated in an "integrated manner", the yard said.

“The result is a wholly new level of personal choice, freedom and flexibility to enjoy the very best of everything superyachting has to offer.”

To this end, the motor yacht is described as a "companion yacht", rather than a shadow yacht. The yard suggested it could play the part of the mothership at regatta events in which the sailing yacht may be competing.

It would also act as the operation and accommodation centre for the owner's overspilling crew and guests, as well as offering extra accommodation for staff including the helicopter pilot, doctors and tutors.

Sporting an "aggressive" and "futuristic" design, the motor yacht's accommodation would comprise an owner's suite as well as eight guests in four cabins. The crew quarters meanwhile would allow for a staff of 18.

Elsewhere, the explorer has 400 square metres of storage space for tenders, toys, cars, a helicopter and even a submarine.

The sailing yacht meanwhile has been designed with a 14.6 metre beam, allowing enough deck space to accommodate a swimming pool, flybridge and sun deck.

The high performance sailing system meanwhile has been designed for easy handling, reliability and efficiency. The two masts and all sails are entirely button operated.

The sailing yacht's ecological credentials meanwhile include solar technology integrated into the masts. This will capture sunlight throughout the day. The yacht also includes "smart" power generation, storage and management systems.

The sailing yacht accommodation includes an owner's suite and a further eight cabins for 16 guests. The staff quarters allows for a crew of 14.

The decor has been described as including “the most luxurious touches” with “plush carpets”, “exquisite upholstery” and “handcrafted wood veneers”.

The yard said the concept “bridges the gap between the experience of sailing and the adventure of the motor yacht lifestyle.”

In a statement, it added that the project is “designed for the family who seeks life without compromise, the combination of dual-mast DynaRig sailing yacht and rugged support vessel offers unbridled freedom for both the journey and the destination.”

Also in-build at the yard is the 81-metre flagship sailing yacht RH400. Due for completion in 2020, the project will become one of the largest sailing yachts in the world when it is delivered to her Asian owner.
