The World Superyacht Awards is a fantastic annual event held to acknowledge and honour the best luxury yachts on the planet. This year the ceremony took place at the Palazzo Vecchio in Italy on the 13th of May. The superyacht owners and industry leaders participated in the event filled with excitement and thrill to find out the names of the best superyachts launched throughout 2016. Here are the winners.

Sailing Yacht of the Year:

70m sailing yacht SYBARIS

Yacht Description

With launch in 2015, the 70m sailing yacht Sybaris (Hull C.2227) is a breath-taking performance-orientated ketch, constructed by the leading Italian builder, Perini Navi. Sybaris superyacht has been designed by the yard's in-house team, in partnership with bespoke Philippe Briand. Her stylish interiors are by PH Design. 

Accommodation aboard luxury yacht Sybaris is provided in a huge 30-metre guest area, positioned on the main deck. This features a 4-metre wide sliding door, allowing easy communication from the spacious cockpit to the main saloon. In addition, there is an amazing 18-metre flying bridge, which provides unmatched outdoor area for guests and friends to relax, entertain or sunbath.

Luxury mega yacht Sybaris is the first Perini Navi yacht to feature 3 Variable Speed Generators that supply electrical power via a DC Bus to the vessel’s main electrical grid with the potential to store excess power in Class-Approved lithium polymer batteries. The exceptional advantage of Silent Running modes together with Peak and Trough Shaving during generator operations allow for unparalleled efficiency as well as reduced emissions.

The all-aluminium 70m mega yacht Sybaris (Hull C.2227) is powered by twin MTU 1440 kW diesel engines, reaching a top speed of 17,5 knots. Her maximum beam is of 13m (42'65''), while her draught (keel up) is of 4,5m (14'8''). Accommodation is provided for a total of 12 guests in 6 cabins.

Yacht Description

One of the largest yachts in the world, luxury motor yacht DILBAR (Project OMAR) is a striking and breath-taking 156m vessel, built by the premier German shipyard, Lurssen. Mega yacht DILBAR was launched from Lurssen's shipyard facility in Lemwerder in April 2015.

49m Motor Yacht GLAZE

The 49m (161’) luxury yacht Glaze (ex Lady Michelle) was built by Trinity Yachts in 2007. The superyacht Glaze features a modern open plan layout with large exterior common areas. Motor yacht Glaze received a major refit in 2010 at DERECKTOR shipyard, Fort Lauderdale Florida.

Yacht Glaze (ex Lady Michelle) features a semi-displacement form and aluminum hull and superstructure and can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 cabins. Some of the noteworthy features on superyacht Glaze include her vast sundeck, first class sky-lounge, sumptuous master suite, spacious guest cabins and the abundance of space throughout the yacht linked via her eye-catching spiral staircase connecting all 3 decks.

Glaze boasts a light and airy feeling to her interior with an open plan main salon and dining room. The aft section is devoted to comfortable living with ample seating and a full entertainment / Sat-TV system. Forward of the salon is a large formal dining table able to seat up to 10 guests. A guest desk with laptop computer & internet access can be found aft to starboard, and a small wet bar opposite to port. 

Trinity motor yacht Glaze is able to accommodate up to 12 guests in the following cabin configuration. A full beam Master Stateroom located on the Main Deck with King size bed, casual sitting area, study, walk-in closets, ensuite bath with cast iron hot tub. TV/DVD/CD/Sat TV. A VIP Stateroom cabin located to starboard aft on the lower deck with a King size bed, vanity/desk, ensuite bath with shower & sitz bath. TV/DVD/CD/Sat TV. Two guest staterooms with a King size bed, ensuite bath, vanity, desk. TV/DVD/CD/Sat TV. A Guest Stateroom with Twin beds, ensuite bath, vanity, desk. TV/DVD/CD/Sat TV. All 4 guest staterooms are of equal size. The only difference is that the VIP features a sits bath/shower.

Yacht Glaze’s sky lounge has a warm and welcoming setting, featuring a large semi circular couch surround sound theatre system with a drop-down plasma TV with CD, DVD & Sat-TV. There is a day head to port and a media room to starboard. The sky lounge opens out onto a huge covered upper aft deck through two electric sliding doors.

Adjacent is the media room which features a plasma TV with CD, DVD, Blue Ray, Sat-TV & Playstation 3. The room also has pull out bed and can be converted to additional accommodations for children or staff, and a full en-suite bathroom. Her Upper Aft Deck features formal dining for 12 guests, ample casual seating, as well as Sat-TV. There is also comfortable seating area forward of the Wheelhouse.

Trinity M/Y Glaze (ex Lady Michelle) also provides a large sundeck, sporting an enormous sun pad, hot tub, large wet bar area, BBQ, Sat-TV, enclosed day head, exercise equipment and dining seating for 10. Her large aft deck features another al fresco dining option, on the large circular table. 

Yacht Glaze is an exceptionally comfortable and spacious yacht with a comprehensive list of extras including Quantum "Zero Speed" (At Anchor) Stabilizers. She also has a fantastic selection of water sport toys including a 21' Novurania RIB c/w Diesel Inboard, 2 Yamaha 3-men waverunners, a 13' Rescue tender, Kayaks, Water skis, Kneeboard and Wakeboard, an Inflatable banana, etc as well as a Freestyle water slide - full height from sun deck to sea with soft landing scoop at bottom Fishing gear, a, Beach toys, Snorkeling equipment, Scuba diving equipment for 4 divers.

One of the finest superyachts in the world of charter yachts, Joy boasts exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell and interior design by Studio Indigo. Joy offers ample exterior spaces and an incredible “closer-to-the-sea” cruising experience. She was launched by Feadship last year, and it took her very little time to become the charterer’s favourite.

Judges’ Special Award for Quality & Value:

33.40m motor yacht NARVALO

Cantiere delle Marche motor yacht Narvalo was acknowledged for her great design, quality and price, and was named a perfect example of a ‘pocket explorer yacht’. Narvalo is a fantastic superyacht for cruising in the shallow waters of the Caribbean that also stands out with her excellent features of an explorer vessel. Spacious interior spaces, long range, seaworthiness and toys and tenders storage space make this 33.40m yacht one of the nicest charter yachts.

 

 

 Judges’ Special Award for Achievement 

50m motor yacht CHASSEUR

The award winner motor yacht Chasseur was named one of the best vessel launched by Christensen Shipyard. The judges acknowledged that Chasseur was built during the difficult times and marked the reopening of the yard. Chasseur boasts slim exterior lines with timeless design and offers airy and bright exterior spaces. This 50m charter vessel is available in various parts of the world.
