The words of the  ISAF president, Carlo Croce in the opening ceremony as well as the Vice –president, George Andreadis in the closing ceremony, is proof of the success of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship hosted in Cyprus between 13th  and 20th of July 2013 , in the sea area of the Limassol Nautical club. The Italian President referred to a great organization, and the Greek vice-president complimented the organizers.Since November 2009, when ISAF commended  to Cyprus the organization of the event, until the day of the event the Cyprus Sailing Federation and all its staff, sponsors, partners and volunteers (250 in total with a valuable contribution) worked hard aiming at three goals.The establishment of Cyprus as a sailing center, the improvement  of the island’s position in world sailing map and the promotion of  Cyprus in these challenging times.The words of the ISAF officials and the content faces of the 350 athletes from 61 countries, sealed the event’s success. Cyprus and Cyprus Sailing achieved their goal. They are entitled to feel proud that  they were able to deliver all this amidst these tough economic conditions. ISAF Vice-President, George Andreadis closed the event as sailors from the Cypriot team passed the flag to the Portuguese team with Tavira, Portugal set to host the 2014 ISAF Youth Worlds.

The participation of the Cypriot sailors was not aimed in distinction since they had to deal with high level opponents. What’s more, some athletes competed in boats that they had seen for the first time!

For example in the classes 29er and the SL16, Cyprus participated for the first time, while in class 420,  Cypriot sailors use 470.Harris Papazoglou and Orestis Germanos  completed only one training in class 29ers!

The goal of our athletes was to gather experience for the future. This goal has been achieved.

Onisiforos Neophytou (born in April 1998, squad member of the Famagusta Nautical Club and Sotiris Fanaris (born in January 2000, squad  member of the  Larnaca Nautical Club) ended in the 9th place of the general ranking list.

420 Boys

Rafail Theocharous (born in December 99, squad member  of the Limassol Nautical Club). and Michalis  Panayiotou (born in May 96, squad member of the Limassol Nautical Clubere in the 26th place of the general ranking list

420 girls

Tatiana Avgousti (born in November 95, squad member of the Kyrenia Nautical club) and Anna Constantinou (born in December ’99, squad member of the Kyrenia Nautical Club). concluded their efforts finishing in 27th place of the general ranking list.

Laser Radial Boys

Joseph Herodotou (born in July ‘96, a squad member of the  Limassol Nautical  Club) concluded the event finishing in the 36th place of the general ranking.

Laser radial girls

 Eleni Kyriakidou (born in July ‘95, squad member of the Kyrenia Nautical club) concluded the races in the 36th place of the general ranking list,.

RS:X Boys

Yiannos Virides (born in February 95, squad member of the Kyrenia Nautical club) finished in the 19th place.

RS: X Girls

Cyprus’ Ioanna Avraamidou (Born in July 99, squad member of the  Kyrenia club)is in the 19th place of the general rankings.

29er

Haris Papazoglou (born in January 2000 squad member of the Limassol Nautical Club)  and Orestis Germanos (born in March 2000, squad member of the Limassol Nautical club) concluded the event in the 29th place.

Nations  trophy

In total, 61 countries in the special rating of countries, based on the overall performance of athletes in all classes, Cyprus was enlisted 34th.

Italy emerged victorious as it gathered 309 degrees. Australia followed with 300 and New Zealand with 285.
