Looking at Malcolm Miller, one could easily think they are looking at an old Venetian galley, the legendary ship that took Christopher Columbus on his journey to the New World, the flagship of a small fleet that crossed the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of the African continent as it discovered an alternative route to India, or perhaps the Black Pearl of the Caribbean in its days of glory. 

Malcolm Miller isn’t any less glorious compared to the sailboats above and certainly not compared to those that accompanied in the old days the nobles and the dukes to their destinations. On the contrary, it is perfectly refined and ready for a comfortable and long journey that will transport guests to a magical and beautiful place, leaving the best impressions.

A few words about the story of the boat

The big sailing boat Malcolm Miller is classified due to its size (approximately 50 meters in length) as a superyacht, and it is the twinned vessel of Sir Winston Churchill. It was created in 1967 in Aberdeen, Scotland, by John Lewis & Sons to be one of the main training boats for young sailors in England.

In 2000, it was sold and used as a private leisure boat. In 2008, while being renovated, it was damaged by fire, and it was then abandoned at Falmouth Harbor.

It was severely damaged when found in the hands of a new owner in Limassol Mr Aia Tchacos, who decided to bring it back to life. It is owned by EDT Ship management and the children of the man who literally saved the ship, Thetis and Creon Tchacos.

Speaking to Cyprus Yachting, Thetis Tchacos told us that Malcolm Miller was a great challenge for her father when he discovered it.

In particular, Thetis pointed out that in 2011 her father heard about the boat and the situation it was in and decided to travel to Southampton to see it. Due to his interest in historical vessels and, willing to proceed with a brand new and impressive project, he bought the vessel and sent it to Poland to be fully refurbished by Conrad and Marine Projects, while monitored closely by her father and her brother Creon.

Thetis also said that the impressive sailing boat Malcolm Miller had to be rebuilt almost entirely, which lasted more than one year, while in 2014 her father travelled with it, participating in several big boat races.

"Wherever he went, everyone turned their heads and looked. The work done on the boat complemented its beauty, and we are very proud to have brought back to life such a historic masterpiece" Thetis said. "It was created for the ocean, and you can imagine our enthusiasm. This year we hope to have a successful first season" she added.

Fine luxury and aesthetics

Malcolm Miller stands out due to the sleek luxury that distinguishes it. Lots of wood teak, both outside and within the vessel, the masts shining in the sun, the golden lion on the bow (which refers to its history in the seas of England), oak floors that shine, even the bronze handles that open the skylights on the deck to let light into the rooms - all emphasize the attention to detail of its construction so that, besides the aesthetics of the boat, it also serves the practical needs of its passengers.

This superyacht sailing boat is fully equipped to accommodate eight passengers and seven crew members, and it features a lounge and a traditional wooden dining room, as well as en suite rooms for everyone.

Today, the sailboat is anchored in Limassol, on the premises of EDT Offshore, under the British flag - it kept from the time it was UK property - even though the base of the owners is in Limassol, and it is available for rent.

So,  as of this year, this unique yacht is available to rent for a week or more, or even to accommodate private parties and events. The crew is included in the price so that passengers can enjoy every moment on the boat with all the comforts.
