De Antonio Yachts, a leading Spanish shipyard recognized for its innovation in design and sustainability, has announced the donation of its E23 model, the firm’s first 100% electric boat, to the Philippe Cousteau Foundation at a ceremony held at the Club Nàutic de l’Estartit, in Torroella de Montgrí, Girona.
Recently awarded the prize for the best National Shipyard in the ANBE 2024 Awards and as the best Eco-focused boat under 10m LOA in the Boat Builders Awards for its international projection and its commitment to sustainable sailing, De Antonio Yachts has demonstrated its commitment to the environment in the 37th America’s Cup, where the E23 was the Official Electric Boat.
The Philippe Cousteau Foundation will use the E23 in its environmental education programs to promote the care of Mediterranean ecosystems, as well as in its seabed research projects. For the foundation, this collaboration represents an unprecedented opportunity, as it is the first vessel of this kind that they have ever received.
Among other things, it will be used for research and monitoring of species, sample collection, release of species bred in captivity, filming of documentaries and monitoring of pollutants through the Cousteau Constellation program.
The E23, a pioneering model in the yachting industry, played a crucial role in the 37th America’s Cup as the Official Electric Boat. It was used as a transfer boat for the organization, Grant Dalton’s personal boat and media boat for broadcasts. The E23 stands out for its innovation and environmental friendliness, combining optimal performance and autonomy. With a length of 7.20 meters and the capacity to reach speeds of up to 30 knots, the model is an example of modern engineering and energy efficiency in sailing.
“From De Antonio Yachts we want to contribute to the preservation of our oceans together with the Philippe Cousteau Foundation,” said Marc de Antonio, founder and CEO of De Antonio Yachts, during the delivery ceremony. “We are confident that ‘Round Robin’ will be a key tool to boost research and raise awareness of the importance of protecting marine biodiversity. It is a 100% electric boat, designed with maximum efficiency in mind, with a foil integrated between its double hull, reducing friction when moving forward, increasing speed, reducing consumption and extending its autonomy”.
Jaime Rodrigo de Larrucea, secretary general of the Philippe Cousteau Foundation, thanked the donation highlighting the importance of “Round Robin” for the development of the foundation’s programs: “This boat, the first of its kind that we have received at the foundation, will allow us to expand the scope of our scientific, social, informative and documentary projects as well as research and actions for the conservation of the sea”.
The Philippe Cousteau Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to the conservation and protection of marine ecosystems. From its headquarters on the Costa Brava, the foundation promotes scientific research projects and environmental awareness campaigns aimed at protecting marine biodiversity and promoting the sustainable development of marine resources.
Its main activities include educational programs, aimed at raising awareness among new generations of the importance of caring for the oceans, and seabed studies, which include environmental monitoring and the restoration of key habitats. Through these initiatives, the foundation seeks to build a more sustainable and respectful future for the marine environment, following the Cousteau family’s legacy of exploration and conservation.
