Yachting: Not Business… but Meaning

A new philosophical manifesto on the essence of yachting is introduced by Captain Georgios Parisis, Master Mariner, whose work bridges navigation, leadership philosophy, and the evolving culture of the sea.

Rather than approaching yachting as another segment of the luxury industry, the book reframes it as a human experience of awareness, connection, and meaning.

About the Author

Captain Georgios Parisis is a Master Mariner, educator, and maritime strategist active in the international yachting sector.

He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Marine Engineering Management from the University of Greenwich and combines academic knowledge with extensive practical experience at sea.

He currently serves as Scientific Advisor on Training and Education at the Hellenic Yacht Crew Association (HYCA) and as Scientific Advisor to the Union of Shipping Agents of the Greek Islands (ENPEN) on matters related to marina development, the evolution of the yachting industry, and maritime education.

Captain Parisis has designed more than twenty specialized training programs for yacht crews and has delivered lectures and seminars at two universities and at the Merchant Marine Academies (Schools of Masters).

He is also known for developing innovative conceptual frameworks on maritime leadership and philosophy, including the concept of “Yachting Ideology,” which approaches yachting not merely as an economic activity but as a cultural and intellectual phenomenon.

 

Book Concept

The book is structured as a manifesto of perspective.

Rather than describing yachts, routes, or destinations, it explores the inner dimension of the journey, suggesting that the next era of yachting will be shaped by three fundamental ideas:
