Greek sailors have set their sights on the podium at the ILCA 6 Masters World Championship 2026, currently taking place in the Saronic Gulf. Following the completion of the first six races over the opening three days of competition, five Greek competitors remain firmly in contention for medals and are optimistic about their prospects heading into the final stages of the championship.
In the Apprentices category, the leading Greek performance so far comes from Michalis Koulianos, who sits in third place with 15 penalty points.
"I am very pleased with my performance so far at the World Championship. I've been consistent in my results and I hope to perform even better during the final three days of the event. My goal is to remain within the top three until Sunday," said the Kalamaki Nautical Club sailor.
In the women's standings, Triantafyllia Malli, Konstantina Karydi and Anna Agrafioti currently occupy second, third and fourth place respectively and appear well-positioned to challenge for medals.
In the Masters category, Maria Vlachou has delivered an outstanding performance during the first half of the championship. With 28 penalty points, she currently ranks fifth overall and first among the women. If she maintains her form through the final three days, she is expected to secure a medal.
"We have already reached the halfway point of the championship and everything is progressing exceptionally well, both for the event itself and for the performance of the Greek sailors. Sailing in your home country is always special, and we hope to celebrate as many medals as possible by the end of the competition. I may be leading the Masters category, but there is still a long way to go before the job is done. Right now, the priority is to rest, clear our minds and return to the water refreshed on Friday," commented Maria Vlachou.
Weather and sailing conditions throughout the first three days have been ideal for the 159 sailors competing in the championship.
