Aegean Regatta 2026: Strong Winds, Thrilling Battles and Unforgettable Moments in Agathonisi

With the second race, from Fournoi to Agathonisi, the Aegean Regatta 2026 continued, offering participants an authentic sailing experience in the Aegean, featuring strong winds, demanding conditions and intense battles for distinction.

The start was given on Tuesday morning off the coast of Fournoi, under particularly strong winds and powerful gusts, conditions that remained throughout the day and into the evening. The crews were called upon to manage a demanding combination of wind and waves in a race featuring fast sailing, continuous changes in positions and conditions worthy of the Aegean’s reputation.

In the Performance category, the yachts continued after Agathonisi towards Marathokampos, for their respective leg, sailing in six Beaufort winds and heavy seas. The battles were continuous, with the crews fighting until the very last moment. The Turkish yacht Matrak crossed the finish line first in real time, followed by Aristofani just three minutes later. The overall standings remain wide open, with the leading yachts separated by only a few points.

At the finish of the route from Fournoi to Agathonisi, the first yacht to cross the line was the Russian Courrier Du Coeur, confirming the high level of competition that characterises this year’s event.

In the Sport category, the crews faced the same demanding weather conditions, with dozens of colourful spinnakers filling the Aegean and creating a spectacular sight. However, the beauty and unique atmosphere of Agathonisi rewarded all participants for their efforts.

In the evening, the island’s small harbour was transformed into a place of celebration, hosting a total of 65 yachts and the prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the second race. This was followed by a concert by renowned Greek singer Glykeria, who offered athletes, accompanying guests and local residents a memorable musical evening, creating a unique atmosphere in the picturesque harbour of Agathonisi.

Of particular importance was the presence of the new Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy and Chairman of the Aegean Regatta Organising Committee, Fotis Mangos, who visited the island and had the opportunity to speak with crews and organisers, reaffirming the continued support of the State for the Aegean’s leading offshore sailing institution.
